NEAID (Northeast Centre for Equity on Integrated Development)

Even if the sowed seed embraces earth’s darkness,
One day … it will empower itself from sunlight to become a tree;

In 2014, Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID) was formally registered, but it took us another two years to truly understand the real challenges, ideate interventions, and design programs. It wasn’t until 2017 that we piloted our first program. We, the founders of NEAID, studied in the same school and were posted in the same district while working with the Assam Government. We often went beyond our official obligations to take initiative and help those in need. While working outside the region, we had the opportunity to collaborate with a wonderful team of young professionals from diverse social, geographical, and cultural backgrounds, all working towards catalyzing social and economic reforms in India. We realized that there was a lot of good work happening all over the country to overcome the development limitations of India, but somehow, the same wave seemed to be receding before reaching the Northeastern part of the country.

Be it geographical difficulty, socio-cultural differences, or political challenges, we are lagging behind at some points. It forced us to ponder, in spite of there being so many knowledgeable and experienced individuals from the region contributing to the nation building; the Northeast is still to catch up with the rest of India and the world. We found part of the answer lies in addressing our prime issues with innovative and tested solutions customized to local needs. Perhaps it is time for us to understand the need for an integrated approach, empowering the youths from the region and understanding the value of sustainability in our actions.

NEAID is a small but determined step towards making a positive change in the Northeast. We are committed to giving our best with the support of all well-wishers and supporters who are willing to be a part of our endeavor toward a better Northeast. We acknowledge that it was never possible with just the two of us, and we are immensely grateful for the support from our friends, well-wishers, and team who have helped make many things happen. As we reflect on our humble beginnings, we are reminded that small, innovative teams can indeed achieve big things and bring about meaningful change.

Help us nurture and sustain this tree of change;
so that………
its fruits satisfy the hungry,
its flowers calm the heart;
its leaves heal the sick,
its seeds spread hope;
its shade comfort the weary
and they regain strength
to carry on their trail
also, lend a hand to others.
