Relief Activities

The Northeast part of India witnesses floods almost every year and has been categorized as a high-damage risk zone causing frequent earthquakes in the region leaving behind a tale of death and destruction. In 2022, according to officials, 32 districts of Assam have been inundated with flood and 6 districts have witnessed landslides, affecting 2.2 million people over the span of 2 months. The flood has taken over 96 Revenue Circles and 2,930 villages, Affecting the lives of more than 130 people due to the torrential downpour, nearly 2.7 lakh people lost their shelter and were shifted to 499 relief camps. Around 40 percent of Assam’s total land area is flood-prone and constitutes nearly 10 percent of the total flood-prone area in the country.

During disaster response including COVID management, NEAID interventions are planned based on the assessment done by its team and as per the request received from the district administration. For quick response during disasters, the NEAID team works closely with District Administration, PRI members, CSO and NSS volunteers to understand the ground realities and prepare customized plans to help the people in need. The intervention is divided into four major areas i.e., area identification, need assessment, finalization of the target group, provision of items and services, and rehabilitation activities post-disaster. The main objective of the Relief activities.

The main objective of the Relief activities:

  • To reach out to as many households as possible with relief items to support households.
  • To ensure the health and well-being of mothers, Children, and the Elderly.
  • To ensure that people affected by disaster can stay in relief camps with dignity and re-start their previously ongoing activities and lifestyle.
  • To build resilient villages to withstand the adverse effects of disaster through sustainable preventive strategies.

As a part of disaster response, NEAID provides dry ration kits, special kits for mother and children, organized medical camps, veterinary camps for livestock, sanitary Napkins, Chlorine tablets, make-shift shelter homes, tarpaulin etc. During the crucial period of COVID19 pandemic, NEAID had provided dry ration kit, arranged Oxygen concentrators, OTC Medicines, PPE kit etc in different locations of Northeast. The activities also include awareness campaigns on Hand-washing technique, Dos and Don’ts during disaster etc. The rehabilitation activities includes Making temporary Bamboo bridges, re-build houses by providing material support, providing WASH kits to schools and cattle feed and medicines for livestock.
